Celebrating The Diamond Jubilee in schools

The Queen came to the throne on 6th February 1952  and 2012 will mark 60 years of The Queen's reign.

The Diamond Jubilee will be an event celebrated all over the world and one which offers your school many opportunities to bring learning to life.

If you don't have time to design fun, creative ways to mark the occasion, we are here to help!

Many of our dedicated, passionate educational service providers have fun and creative ways to help your school celebrate. Here are just a few examples...

Dressing up kings and queens at school

ALTRU DRAMA offers a Play in a Day on the Tudors and a new Play in a Day created for the Diamond Jubilee, which will look at the changes in the country across Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

SIDEWAYS THEATRE have gained a fantastic reputation for developing highly creative experiences that immerse children and teachers alike in a fantastical world of imagination.

They set everyone off on a creative journey that sparks learning right across the curriculum, and that is designed to continue long after they have left. Why not turn the whole school into a stage with a Sideways Theatre 'Experiential'?

UNIVERSITY OF THE FIRST AGE can work with KS2 upwards on looking at 'Leadership' as a theme. Students will:

  • have the chance to consider what it means to be a leader as a King or Queen and the rights & responsibilities associated with power & position.
  • use discussion, role play and creative approaches to explore these themes.
  • develop their understanding of what it means to be a leader, explore their own leadership skills and how they can put them into use in the future.

For a “Kings & Queens” celebratory event, ARCHAEOLOGY FOR SCHOOLS can run workshops looking at the history of the early monarchs of England by running interactive activities that explore at the archaeology of Anglo-Saxon royalty. Pupils will be able to help excavate the burial of an Anglo-Saxon King, compose royal poetry and recreate a funeral banquet and eventual burial (we even bury one of them, with the others forming a funeral procession!). We are able to also cover earlier and later periods in history from the Romans through to the Tudors.

By using our Sought After Service* we can provide you with creative workshops that meet your needs and celebrate this historic event with you at your school. Simply let us know the location of the school, age range of pupils and your budget and leave the rest to us!
